HOORAY! School's out and there's so much to see and do.

A day trip here, a visit there, hit the highway or jump on the bus or train, there are fun activities in all directions.

And to calm the nerves of frazzled parents, local councils are coming to the party with a wide range of family-friendly attractions.

Lake Macquarie City Council is offering all sorts of great kids' stuff, intended to appeal to all ages.

The entertaining line-up includes:

? Troy Murphie's Magic Show. Magical fun for all the family. Morisset Library, 39 Yambo Street two shows! Wednesday, July 4, at 10 am and Wednesday, July 11, at 10am. Cost is $6 (adults and children).

? A Matter of Seconds. Water safety for five- to 10-year-olds, with a special appearance by Mr Duck. Free at Swansea Library, 228 Pacific Highway, Tuesday, July 3, 10am, and at Charlestown Library, corner Smith and Ridley streets, Friday, July 6, 10am.

Creative Craft Hour. Move around the craft stations and create your own masterpieces to take home. For ages 5 to 12. Belmont Library, 19 Ernest Street, Tuesday, July 10, at 10am. Cost is $5.

? Harry Potter Party. Join the magical fun and games! For five- to 10-year-olds. Charlestown Library, corner Smith and Ridley streets, Friday, July 13, at 2.30pm, and at Speers Point Library, 139 Main Road, Saturday, July 21, at 11.30am. Cost is $5.

? Dreamtime Story Corner. Celebrate NAIDOC Week with Aboriginal educator and performer Robert Sampson jnr. Stories and dance with heaps of audience participation for children up to 12 years and their families. Free at Toronto Library, corner of Brighton Avenue and Pemell Street, Thursday, July 12, at 10.30am.

? Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery at Booragul will hold holiday workshops for children from eight to 12 years on July 11, 12 and 13 from 10am to 1pm. Various mediums will be explored each day but all based on the exhibition Cuisine and Country: a gastronomic venture in Australian art.

The gallery will also present a craft forum on July 14 at 2pm to launch its new craft website. The forum will feature talks by well-established craft professionals.
